V2OD Frequently Asked Questions
Q. I have a rather low rear end gear (4.10). What RPM reduction can I expect with your V2OD Overdrive?
A. U.S. Gear offers you a choice of either a 20% overdrive (@ 500 RPM reduction) or a 30% overdrive (@ 750 RPM reduction).
Q. Can you shift the V2OD on the fly?
A. Yes, the V2OD certainly can shift on the fly. In fact, all of the overdrives we manufacture are designed to be shifted on the fly. Our V2OD's two step collar engagement and sprint car influenced cable shift mechanism accomplishes shifts at moving speeds up to 35-40 mph. (A simple load pitch on your accelerator will allow you to shift ranges.)
Q. Is the V2OD designed to split gears for towing?
A. No, it is not. This unit is not designed for RV towing or use. If you need the split shifting capability for heavy loads, then see the Dual Range portion of our web site.
Q. Does the V2OD provide twice the forward gears on acceleration?
A. The answer is no, of course not! V2OD's were never intended to multiply gears into something they are not (i.e., a performance ratio). Our overdrives were developed to work with a properly geared vehicle. Let the rear end and transmission do what they were designed to do!
