1950 Tudor Gets a Performance Lift
with U.S. Gear's V2OD Overdrive!
What
do you do when you're cruising down the highway in your beefed-up Tudor
and you want to have a conversation with your friend in the passenger
seat? Well, you can SCREAM -- or you can install a V2OD
Overdrive and quiet down the atmosphere.
A customer in California recently installed a
unit on a Tudor which has been in his family since it was new. We'll
let Joe tell the story.
The Short Story
"My father purchased the car in 1963 from his aunt who purchased it new in
1950. Originally the car had a flat head six and 3-speed, until 1984. That
is when my dad put in a wheezy 307 Chevy and ubiquitous Power-slide
transmission. Eventually I got into hot rodding and saw potential in the
old "Blue Ford," as I called it when I was growing up.
Just as I got my first job the family station wagon just began to crap
out. My plans of robbing the 429 big block and C-6 trans from the wagon
were soon realized with help from my younger brother and father. Plans to
stick a 460 crank in it were abandoned when Harry Vellios, the owner of
our favorite machine shop announced that he had a stroker crank, pistons,
and 6.8" Chevy rods, and numerous other goodies...
After
acquiring only 200 mile on the odometer, a US Gear VČOD 30% overdrive was
put into commission to ease the commute to the nearest (legal) dragstrip
that is 40 miles away and also to cut back on the thirsty motors $2.25 per
gallon, Los Angeles priced, 91 octane diet. Initially intended to go fast
in a straight line, the car has evolved into an all around impressive
driver with it's beefy powerplant, fat rear meats, trick front and rear
suspension, awesome brakes and overdrive transmission all wrapped in a
beautiful but deceivingly stock '50 Ford envelope. However, the car truly
is a devil in a blue dress when called upon to be. I plan on holding onto
the car forever and perhaps passing on its' 53 year Sander history to my
children."
